Products - Tracking Systems

Tracking greatly improves the performance of your PV system. The panels follow the course of the sun and this greatly improves efficiency. An additional energy output of up to 40% in comparison to fixed installations is possible. Active or electronic tracking arrays are now replacing windmills all over Australia as a more efficient alternative energy source on non grid fed rural properties.

Tracking arrays for photovoltaic modules are not new. Most of them use light depended resistors (LDR) which source the brightest spot in the sky, (the sun,) and follow it. LDR's have proven to be "the weakest link" in the system for several reasons. As the brightest spot in the sky can change constantly with cloud movements, trackers with LDR's will move about constantly on a cloudy day. They are not immune from the effects of sun and rain. UV irradiation changes the value of the LDR's so they lose orientation or they become blind and stop tracking all together. Other enemies are the parrots which can pick at the LDR's or chew the cable leading to them.

Both BW SOLAR and LORENTZ have developed tracking controllers which eliminate the need for LDR's. These designs utilize an electronic timer which enables the solar array to track the sun based on the time of day

BW SOLAR has been designing 5 Star Tracking arrays since 1990 and was an innovator in this field in Australia. LORENTZ has also come a long way with his range of ETA-TRACK ACTIVE arrays. This technology has been developed to the point where they are so basic to assemble they can be sent out as DIY Kits requiring no special tools.

For ON-GRID applications LORENTZ is a leader in the field with solar parks ranging from 12kW to 2.1MW installed all over the world.
